Tsuruoka NL is pleased to announce that two of it's members, and three members from Avalon Karate have been selected to join the Canadian Team, and will attend the Junior Karate Pan-Am games in Ecuador in August 2016.

Tsuruoka NL members are James Thorne and Christopher Au, both students at the Paradise Dojo.
This is the first time that 5 athletes from Newfoundland and Labrador have been selected to join the Canadian National Junior team. Congrats to all five of the talented young men on your accomplishments and we wish you the best of luck!

On behalf of the entire club, we would like to thank everyone who supported the club by purchasing tickets, and as well to all the members and families that worked so hard to sell tickets over the last few months.  All monies raised will go towards the costs of team travel to the 2017 Tsuruoka (Inter)Nationals that will be held July of 2017 in Kansas, US.

Tsuruoka NL results from the 2015 Atlantic Karate Championships

Tsuruoka NL would like to extend congrats to all competitors from Newfoundland and Labrador that took part in the 2015 Atlantic Karate Championships that were held this past weekend (October 11,2015) in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island.

Several members from the Tsuruoka NL family took part in the competition, and the results are posted below.  A total of 21 medals were awarded, with 7 gold, 9 silver, and 5 bronze

64 Medals for Tsuruoka NL team at Tsuruoka Nationals!

The Tsuruoka NL team competed this past weekend (May 16-17) at the 2015 Tsuruoka Nationals in Moncton, New Brunswick.  With competitors from across Canada the team secured a total of 64 medals including:

22 Gold
22 Silver
20 Bronze

Cash Prize Winners Announced

On Sunday, February 15, 2015, the Tsuruoka NL group held the draw for its Cash Prize Fundraiser (14-10336700LT).  The winners are as follows:

Karate NL officials at the 2015 Canadian Nation Championships

Karate NL officials took part in the 2015 Canadian National Championships in Richmond, BC. from January 30 to February 1, 2015.  Tsuruoka NL would like to extend congratulations to the both Randy Carew and Steve Thorne, who successfully completed their Judge B certification in Kata and Kumite.

2015 Canadian National Karate Championships

The 2015 Canadian National Karate Championships were held in Richmond, BC. from January 30 to February 1, 2015.  The tournament consisted of 334 competitors, 59 referees, and 41 coaches from across Canada.  The Karate NL Provincial Team (consisting of members from Avalon Karate and Tsuruoka Karate) took part in this tournament, and we are proud of their efforts and accomplishments.

The provincial team brought home 2 gold and 1 bronze medal from this past weekend!

In the Kumite Individual male Cadets +70 division, Christopher Coady took gold, and Jason Ward took bronze.  In the Kumite Individual male Juniors -61 division, Nathaniel Besso took gold!

Congrats to all members of the Karate NL Provincial Team.
